Kodak Ektar 100 - World‘s Finest Grain Negative Film

Set slide film aside,Kodak Ektar can be seen as the glory of Kodak (at least in the film can be found nowadays.) That's the reason Kodak printed "World's Finest Grain" on the boxes proudly. In the same time, its price also high enough to scare film shooters.

Kodak Ektar displays the characteristic of high contrast, high saturation and the world's finest grain, as the description of Kodak. However, it has narrower latitude than other negative film.

When I first time took photo with Kodak Ektar, I felt so weird that the outcome was not so film-like. Without the grainy look can be found on other films, vivid color and high contrast are deviating from the common impression of film images. These characteristics make the photo of Kodak Ektar more like digital image than film.

In the other side, Kodak Ektar is very suitable for digital camera users when they just started to taking film photograph and it deserved the love from film lovers. It's a pity that its price rise to the peak level as Kodak discontinued the product line. Nowadays only those most hardcore Ektar lover would spend their bucks to get more of it before it vanished from this planet totally.

My personal opinion, that saturation and contrast are indeed a sweet poison for me. The only thing that troubles me is the narrow latitude as most of the time I take photo without light meter. Shoot recklessly is not such an affordable way consider that Kodak Ektar is a pricy option. That's why I have to be cautious in every photo I take with it.
